 Upcoming Events

Hello Everyone,

Here are some reminders and upcoming events in our Church Family for the coming weeks!

Worship: Worship this Sunday, May 28, will be at Gower Street United Church. This will be a special worship service with Rev. Dr. Jeff Crittenden preaching. Please come by 10:30 to hear music performed by Evan Smith and Tonia. They will be performing songs by Newfoundland's first Opera Singer Georgina Stirling, better known as Mme. Toulongnet.

Men’s Club: The Men’s Service Club will be meeting on Tuesday, June 6 at St. Thomas’ Anglican Church on Kingbridge Road. All meetings are “Dinner Club Meetings” and begin at 6:30. All men are welcome to come for an evening of good food and terrific fellowship. For further information contact the Church office at 722-3023.

Updates from the Church Council: The 42nd General Council of The United Church of Canada (2015) authorized five remits that should be considered by pastoral charges and presbyteries. The approval of any or all of these five remits will bring about substantive, denomination-shaping changes to the United Church’s Basis of Union. The five remits being voted on by pastoral charges are: (1) Three-Council Model, (2) Elimination of Transfer and Settlement, (3) Office of Vocation, (4) Funding a New Model, and (6) One Order of Ministry. The voting for these Remits is done by the Church Council on behalf of the Congregation. Votes for Remits 1, 2, 3, and 4 need to be received by General Council by June 30, 2017. Remit 6 is due by February 28, 2018. The Church Council will be deciding on Remits 1, 2, 3 & 4 at its Council meeting of June 7, 2017 in order to respond by the June 30, 2017 deadline. The Council is holding a meeting to receive feedback from congregation members on these Remits prior to voting on them. The feedback session will be held on Thursday May 25, 2017 at 7:30 pm at Cochrane Street United Church (please enter through Cochrane Street entrance). In addition, to the feedback session, the Church Council can receive emails on the Remits up until June 4, 2107 at info@cochranestreetuc.com. For further information, please go to the link https://www.gc42.ca/remits – there are two parts to this link. Firstly, there are the remits. Secondly, if you scroll down the screen, there are study guides related to the links. Please note, Remit (6) - One Order of Ministry will be voted on by the Church Council prior to February 28, 2018. It is understood that background information will be circulated on this Remit in the fall of 2017. The Church Council looks forward to your feedback prior to its voting on Remits 1,2,3 & 4.?
