Christmas At Cochrane: Housing the Holy

Message from Church Council

Like many of you, we’ve watched the rising case numbers in our region and increased levels of worry and fear. The church council met on Tuesday night to decide what to do about Christmas Eve services. No one wanted to cancel the services, but we also do not want to put members of our community at risk. We discussed several options and ways forward. In the end, the council decided to cancel the 4 pm tree lighting and the 9 pm Communion service. There will be a short Christmas Eve service outdoors on the front steps of the church with the Christmas reading and some carols at 7 pm. We will also light up our final tree! The Communion service will be available online starting at 4 pm on Christmas Eve and people can gather for worship at their convenience.

Registration is required for the 7 pm outdoor Christmas Eve service. Please note we you will need to register again if you registered for the in-person Christmas Eve service. We are asking when you arrive that you stay within your household bubbles and socially distance from other bubbles.

This was not an easy decision to make, but we feel it is the right one. It was confirmed today when the whole province moved to Alert level 3.

Some of you may be wondering about your Christmas offerings. There are several ways you can get them to us. You drop off cheques or send them in the mail to 81 Cochrane Street, St. John’s, NL A1C 3L7. The mail will be checked on a regular basis. A second option is to send an e-transfer to csuctreasurer@gmail.com. You can also visit our website and use the online donation form. Thank you for your generous support of our ministries.

We pray that in the midst of the challenges of this season, you will find the hope, peace, joy and love that comes with Jesus’ birth filling your hearts and homes this season.

Merry Christmas.

Rev. Miriam & Stephen Jewczyk
